Happy Places combines film photography, augmented reality, hand-drawn rotoscope animation, and audio to create a thoughtful and immersive experience that explores the ideas of memory, healing, trauma, and growth. This capstone project took roughly two and a half months to create and complete. Animations made with Photoshop; AR aspects implemented with Unity.
I am self-taught when it comes to rotoscope animation; this is only the second time I've tried it. This is also the second time I've worked in Unity. I wrote, recorded, and implemented everything for this project by myself. I challenged myself to use unfamiliar mediums and figure out how to tell a personal story in a universal way.
This project reflects upon my own experiences during my last year of college since my summer abroad in South Korea. It was met with an unexpected and overwhelming amount of positive feedback from my peers, professors, department heads, and strangers.
